Έχουμε καιρό να μιλήσουμε, και σκέφτηκα να σε πάρω να δω τι κάνεις.
Έχω κάτι αιώνες να σε δω από κοντά. Κι έχω τρεις βδομάδες ν’ ακούσω τη φωνή σου.
Θυμάσαι την τελευταία φορά που τα είπαμε; Ήταν στην καφετέρια κάτω απ’ το σπίτι σου.
Είχαμε ένα χρόνο να βρεθούμε, κι είχαμε μόλις γυρίσει απ’ τις σπουδές.
Τέσσερις μήνες έχω να σε δω. Κάθε φορά που μιλάμε στο τηλέφωνο, λέμε ότι θα μιλήσουμε από κοντά, ότι θα πάμε κάπου να καθίσουμε οι δυο μας. Αλλά έχει πολύ καιρό να γίνει.
Ας είναι. Τουλάχιστον ακούω τη φωνή σου πού και πού, μαθαίνω τα νέα σου.
Την τελευταία φορά, μου έλεγες ότι είχες ενάμιση χρόνο να πας για κολύμβηση επειδή δεν προλαβαίνεις, θυμάσαι;
Καταλαβαίνω… Κι εγώ έχω να πάω για τρέξιμο πέντε μήνες. Συνέχεια δουλειά, μετά κούραση, πού να βρεις ενέργεια;
Πρέπει να γραφτούμε μαζί γυμναστήριο, τουλάχιστον έτσι θα βρίσκουμε δικαιολογίες μαζί για να μην πάμε, και θα καθόμαστε σπίτι μου να τρώμε πίτσα. Ίσως έτσι σε βλέπω περισσότερο…
Τέλος πάντων. Δεν ξέρω γιατί σου αφήνω μήνυμα στον τηλεφωνητή. Ούτε γιατί το κάνω τόσο δραματικό. Να σου πω κάτι; Εσύ φταις που δεν το σηκώνεις!

Absence
It’s been a while since we last spoke, and I thought of calling you to see how you’re doing. It’s been centuries since I last saw you in person. And it’s been three weeks since I last heard your voice. Do you remember the last time we had a chat? It was at the café, just around the corner from your house. We hadn’t met for a year, and we had just been back from our studies.
I haven’t seen you in four months. Every time we speak on the phone, we say that we’ll get to talk in person, that we’re gonna go sit somewhere, the two of us. But it hasn’t happened in a long time. Oh well… At least I get to hear your voice every once in a while, hear your news.
Last time, you were telling me that you hadn’t been to the swimming pool for a year and half because you never get to, remember?
I understand… I also haven’t gone running in five months. It’s just work all the time, then being knackered, how can you find the energy?
We should register at the gym, at least this way we’ll be finding excuses together in order to not go, and we’ll be staying at mine eating pizza instead. Perhaps this way I’ll get to see you more often…
Anyway. I don’t know why I’m leaving you a voice message, nor why I’m making it so dramatic. You know what? It’s your fault – you’re not picking up!
