Μια επεισοδιακή αγορά

Στο Φώντα πάντοτε άρεσε η γυμναστική, και συγκεκριμένα η άσκηση με βάρη στο σπίτι. Παρόλο που μπορούσε να σηκώνει πολλά κιλά, μια καλοκαιρινή μέρα θέλησε να πάρει δύο μικρά βαράκια για να τα έχει για προθέρμανση. Κατέβηκε λοιπόν στην Αθήνα με το λεωφορείο, και πήγε στο κατάστημα ειδών γυμναστικής.

Μπαίνοντας μέσα, ζήτησε ένα ζευγάρι βαράκια, δέκα κιλών το καθένα. Ο υπάλληλος του τα έδωσε, και Φώντας τον ρώτησε: «Πώς θα τα κουβαλήσω;». Εκείνος απάντησε πως θα τα έβαζε σε ένα κουτί, οπότε ο Φώντας τα πήρε, κι έφυγε για να πάρει πάλι το λεωφορείο προς το σπίτι, με το κουτάκι του στο χέρι.

Έλα όμως που το κουτάκι ζύγιζε είκοσι κιλά... Μέσα στην ανυπόφορη μεσημεριανή ζέστη της Αθήνας, στο γεμάτο λεωφορείο, ο Φώντας όρθιος, κρατούσε το κουτί με τα δύο βαράκια. Οι άνθρωποι γύρω έβλεπαν έναν μεγαλόσωμο γυμνασμένο άντρα να ιδρώνει από πάνω μέχρι κάτω, και να παλεύει να κρατήσει ένα μικρό κουτάκι που γινόταν όλο και βαρύτερο.

Μετά από τριάντα βασανιστικά λεπτά, ο Φώντας κατέβηκε επιτέλους από το λεωφορείο, και κατάφερε να συρθεί με το κουτί μέχρι το σπίτι του. Ευτυχώς τότε ήταν ακόμη φτωχός, και το μόνο διαμέρισμα που μπορούσε να νοικιάσει ήταν στο ισόγειο. Το να μην έχεις, καμιά φορά αποδεικνύεται σωτήριο.

Άφησε το κουτί στην πόρτα, έβγαλε τη καταϊδρωμένη του μπλούζα, και μπουσούλησε μέχρι το μπάνιο. Σκουπίστηκε με την πετσέτα που στέγνωνε πάνω στη μπανιέρα, ξαπλώθηκε στο πάτωμα, και τον πήρε ο ύπνος πάνω στα δροσερά πλακάκια. Είχε κάνει αρκετή γυμναστική για την υπόλοιπη εβδομάδα.

An over-eventful purchase

Fondas always liked working out, and more specifically exercising with weights at home. Although he could life a lot of kilos, one summer day he wanted to buy two small dumbbells in order to have them for warming up. So he took the bus to downtown Athens, and went to the fitness equipment shop.

As he entered, he asked for a pair of dumbbells, ten kilos each. The assistant gave them to him, and Fondas asked him: ‘How should I carry them?’. He answered that he would put them in a box, so Fondas took them, and went on his way once more to take the bus home, with his little box in his hands.

Problem was, the little box weighed twenty kilos… In the unbearable Athens heat, inside the packed bus, Fondas, standing up, was holding the box that contained the two dumbbells. People around saw a large, muscular man, sweating from top to bottom, struggling to hold a tiny little box that was getting heavier and heavier.

After thirty torturous minutes, Fondas finally got off the bus, and managed to drag himself home with the box. Luckily, back then he was still poor, and the only flat he could afford was on the ground floor. Being underprivileged sometimes proves itself to be lifesaving.

He left the box at the door, took of his soaked T-shirt, and crawled to the bathroom. He wiped himself with the towel drying on the bathtub, lay down flat on the floor, and fell asleep on the cool tiles. He had worked out enough for the rest of the week.
