Ο Θωμάς είναι μια καφέ αρκούδα που ζει σε ένα δάσος, κάπου στη Βόρεια Ελλάδα. Είναι δώδεκα χρονών. Του αρέσει να τρώει μέλι που βρίσκει εδώ κι εκεί. Τώρα είναι άνοιξη και απολαμβάνει τον καιρό και τη ζωή στο δάσος.
Κάθε χειμώνα κοιμάται για πέντε μήνες, και όταν ξυπνάει, πάντα πεινάει πάρα πολύ. Έχει μεγάλο σώμα, αλλά του αρέσει η γυμναστική και μπορεί να τρέχει πολύ γρήγορα. Μπορεί ακόμα και να σκαρφαλώνει σε δέντρα.
Έχει έναν ξάδερφο, τον Αντρέα. Ο Αντρέας είναι μια πολική αρκούδα, και ζει στον πάγο, στη Βόρεια Ευρώπη. Στο σπίτι του πάντα κάνει πολύ κρύο, γι’αυτό δεν κοιμάται πολύ, και γυμνάζεται σπάνια.
Προσπαθεί να μιλάει συχνά με το Θώμα στο τηλέφωνο, αλλά δεν είναι πάντα εύκολο. Βλέπετε, έχουν διαφορά ώρας, και όταν ο Αντρέας παίρνει τηλέφωνο, ο Θωμάς συνήθως κοιμάται.

Two distant cousins – Part 1
Thomas is a brown bear who lives in a forest, somewhere in Northern Greece. He’s twelve years old. He likes to eat honey that he finds here and there. Now it’s spring, and he’s enjoying the weather and life in the forest.
Every winter he sleeps for five months, and when he wakes up, he’s always very hungry. He has a big body, but he likes working out and he can run very fast. He can even climb trees.
He has a cousin, Andreas. Andreas is a polar bear, and he lives on the ice, in Northern Europe. In his house, it’s always very cold, so he doesn’t sleep much, and he rarely exercises.
He tries to speak to Thomas often, but it’s not always easy. You see, they have a time difference, and when Andreas calls, Thomas is usually asleep.
